Imagine yourself walking down the center isle of a huge Cathedral Church Sanctuary. The right and the left pews are full of people. The church sanctuary in the shape of a cross had pews on the left wing and the right wing. They too filled with people. The choir loft filled the front of the church worship area. A huge pipe organ filled the front wall of the worship area. Three chairs sat in front, the pulpit area was elevated. As you are walking you are accompanied by two others. They lead you to the front, to the chairs. They indicate yours is the center chair. The three of you sit down at the same time. The choir director then motions for all to stand. You stand. The organ bellows out the command to sing. Everyone including the choir sings with a gusto charged by words of the hymn. Praise to the Lord Almighty. You stand, as you begin to sing. You stop. Every part of your body enveloped by the music, then the words overwhelm you.
You have come to lead people in a discovery of God, you have come to share the word of God, only to find out that God, God’s word and God’s presence already filled this moment. Your task is/was merely to bear witness of this moment being spent with God. To experience God and allow God to overflow into the lives of others. Stay there, stand there, absorb this Spirit from God. Then, as you depart, to allow the Spirit of God to touch others because you bring the presence, the Spirit of God.
One of the purposes of Coached by Grace is to build an awareness of how God stands behind you, walks along side of you and goes before you.
Call to Worship:
1 Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
in light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.
2 Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might: thy justice, like mountains high soaring above, thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
3 To all, life thou givest, to both great and small; in all life thou livest, the true life of all; we blossom and flourish like leaves on the tree, then wither and perish, but naught changeth thee.
4 Thou reignest in glory, thou dwellest in light, thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight; all praise we would render; O help us to see ’tis only the splendor of light hideth thee!

Answer for yourself who is God in this part of the Biblical event/story. In Acts it is God behind history. It is God who has a word to give. It is God visible in the voice. It is God who has a message and ultimately it is this message that reveals God’s will. A spirituality is introduced as it arises from the revelation and consistency of the message of God. When you look into your own life what has the word of God revealed to you? How have you heard the voice of God? Has the message influenced you? If so, how have you responded to it?
The Psalmist responds, goes so far to say that while all creation seems to point to God it is now time that the horn, a declaration, a people close to God speak of God. We speak of spirituality but how can we speak of spirituality without speaking of God?
In the Book of Revelation this “revealing” of God brings a newness, like a spring of living water, the water of life. Life that is intrinsically interwoven and eventually experienced in praise to God. Amen and Amen.
A prayer: Lord God I am a part of a people who have been experiencing the assault of a long time illness. Like a child running into the playroom we/I come into this prayer hoping for cleansing. To read of words about a living water is to be enticed into, yes I WANT THAT!
I too am a part of a people who have sought to do right and then failed. I have sought to be right and have seen my own shortfall. My inability to deliver the simplest of outcomes has come to a screeching halt as I consider your greatness. I would dream to be delivered and then quietly humble myself to know that you seek to deliver me. Be glorified Oh Lord God. As you would touch my soul, as you would lift me, I then approach you as all of my shortfalls, as all of my incomplete dreams come to you through Jesus Christ. As only you could so fill yourself in one we all now receive your fullness though him.
Amen and amen.
